Trouble shooting

Something in the house isn’t right?

Tripping breakers, flickering lights, a dead outlet — small symptoms usually point to a specific problem. Jerry diagnoses the cause and fixes it properly, so it doesn’t come back.

Burning smell or buzzing panel?

Treat it as an emergency. If it’s safe, switch off the affected breaker, then call — we answer 24/7.

Electrical service upgrades

More power for the way you live now.

Many older homes were wired for far less than they run today. A service upgrade gives your home the capacity for central air, modern kitchens and everything that plugs in — and puts an end to nuisance tripping.

  • Breakers trip when the A/C and appliances run together
  • Lights dim when something big switches on
  • An older 100 amp service in a home that has grown
  • Planning a kitchen, addition, central air or generator

Generator installations · Interlock kits

Keep the lights on when the grid goes down.

A generator interlock kit lets a portable generator safely power your home’s own circuits through the panel. Your house runs normally — on generator power — until the utility comes back.

How the interlock works

From the street

Utility main

On

From your generator

Generator breaker

Locked off

Normal mode: the utility powers your home and the plate keeps the generator breaker locked off.

  • Line workers stay safe

The utility main and the generator breaker can never be on at the same time, so power can't back-feed onto the street.

  • No extension cords

Your generator feeds the panel directly — no cords snaking through windows, no fire or tripping hazards.

  • Built to code

Interlock kits meet National Electrical Code and NFPA requirements, and fit most electrical panels.

“We had a breaker tripping in our electrical panel. I called Jerry to tell him our air conditioning was on the same line as our refrigerator. He came over and ran a separate line to our A/C. We haven't had a problem since. Ferraro Electric did a fantastic job!”

Questions

Straight answers.

Are estimates really free?

Yes. Call Jerry, describe what's going on, and he'll set up a time to look at the job and give you a price before any work starts.

Do you take emergency calls at night and on weekends?

Yes — Ferraro Electric is available 24/7. If you smell burning or hear buzzing from your panel, turn off the affected breaker if it's safe to do so and call 516.610.5021 right away.

How do I know if I need a service upgrade?

Breakers that trip when two appliances run together, lights that dim when the A/C kicks on, an older 100 amp panel, or plans for a renovation, central air or a generator are all common reasons. Jerry will check your service and tell you honestly whether an upgrade makes sense.

What is a generator interlock kit?

It's a mechanical lock on your panel that lets a portable generator power your home's circuits safely. The utility main and the generator breaker can never be on at the same time, which protects line workers and removes the need for extension cords running through the house.

Where do you work?

Ferraro Electric is based in Bethpage and serves homeowners across Long Island in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Jerry is a master electrician, and Ferraro Electric is a licensed and insured electrical contractor.
